Today’s Spanglish word of the day is parkear (also spelled as parquear).
So now that we know that the proper Spanish translation for the word “truck” is “camioneta”, en donde la parkeamos? The funny thing about this Spanglish word is that we made in unnecessarily long. The English word “park” is simple and short enough! Why did we make the Spanglish version much longer and harder? Think about it, it doesn’t even follow conventional Spanglish rules! (not that there are any…hehe).
Spanglish examples:
“I wanted to parkear my troca but there was no more space at the parking lot.”
“Ese wey nunca va sacar su licencia. Ni siquiera sabe parkear una bicicleta!“
The proper Spanish translation for the English word “to park” and the Spanglish word “parkear” is estacionar.
“Ladies, if a man takes you to a secluded spot, with romantic music under the moonlight on your first date, don’t let him estacionar the car! If he does, jump out and run!”
Until next time!

I like your blog! However, I must disagree with this one… Parquear is actually recognized by the Real Academia Española, and is used widely as an intransitive verb in Colombia. So, while it might be an Anglicism, it doesn’t mean that it’s Spanglish. Take care!
I meant transitive verb :O
