Dang, Where Did 2010 Go?

Wow, it’s been a while since my last blog entry. A lot has happened since that magical Sunday afternoon when I woke up before my alarm went off. Christmas and New Years crept up faster than you can say Parangaricutirimicuaro. In a blink of an eye, I woke up in a different country and suddenly I caught myself saying my own name with a lisp–Payatharo.

2010 was a good one. It seems like every year comes and goes much faster than the previous year. Quick synopsis off the top of my head…let’s see: My facial hair is filling in, I got some new scars, I fell more in love, some family still talks behind my back and drops by unannounced, vendors still stand in front of my house at the butt-crack of dawn selling cotija cheese and yelling at the top of their lungs an Obama-like promise to repair your old shoes if you give them the chance, I still show up late expecting to still be there earlier than everybody else (and I do), wine has never been tastier, I have come to appreciate the art that is MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)–shout out to Cain Velasquez, two new Mexican sport idols were born–Javier “Chicharito” Hernández in international soccer and Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez in boxing, I perfected my kick-ass Mexican red rice, realized eating healthy is difficult and makes me look anorexic, fulfilled several items on my bucket list, and to finish this long stream of consciousness, I am an interesting blend of Mexican and American values infused with Mexican pride and cultural sensitivity that when colored by my intellectual curiosity make me a “modern Latino.”

If that did not make sense to some of my peeps who are reading this blog, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you still a hold a part in my heart. (This is where we do the cheesy Full House cyber hug without the ugly Kimmy Gibbler).

Paz,

Payazaro
